Bank Regulation: Exploring Capital Requirements and Beyond

Join us for an evening of insightful discussion on a pressing and much debated aspect of banking regulation: capital requirements. A cornerstone of financial system stability, the purpose, implementation, and impact of this regulatory tool will be examined in depth, alongside an exploration of possible alternatives and complementary measures.

Drawing on a broad review of academic research, we will delve into both the micro and the macro perspectives, assess the implications of potential changes to current practices, and critically evaluate alternative regulatory approaches. This event offers a thorough exploration of the complexities of banking regulation, providing a platform for informed and stimulating debate.

The event will feature the presentation of the SFI Public Discussion Note (PDN) on the topic of bank capital requirements, which will be released in the second half of October 2024, by the authors, SFI Prof. Steven Ongena (SFI Senior Chair and Professor of Banking, University of Zurich) and Prof. Simona Nistor (Associate Professor in Banking, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca), as well as a panel discussion with SFI Prof. Yvan Lengwiler (Professor for Economics, University of Basel, and President of the Federal Group of Experts on Banking Stability), Markus Ronner (Group Chief Compliance and Governance Officer, UBS Group AG), and Dr. Roman Studer (CEO, Swiss Bankers Association).
